About the Book:

The introduction deals with the history of Indian writers. It deals with the life and works of the novelist, Kiran Desai. The novel, The Inheritance of Loss deals with the life struggle of the people in the hills. The natural beauties are seen. The relationship between nature and man is also shown.
The second chapter entitled, “The Scenic Sublime” deals with the area of nature and its natural elements. The wilderness refers to those elements of nature, which are difficult to travel or unlock the mysteries by man. It includes natural elements like mountains, lakes, peaks, hills, valleys, seas, oceans, birds and animals. The inter relationship between the elements of nature is shown beautifully. Nature represents supreme power and glory.
The third chapter entitled, “Domestic Picturesque” deals with the gardens and lawns. It represents all the things one could find around the house and its surroundings. The countryside includes valleys and fields. It provides the basic necessities of human beings. It shows the dependence of man on nature. Nature represents the supplier of the basic needs of the people.
The fourth chapter entitled, “Language and Style” portrays the writing skills of the novelist. She beautifully describes the natural elements and compares it to the characters. She also uses various skills and techniques of writing like flashback technique, similes and metaphors.
The last chapter entitled, “Conclusion” portrays beautifully the skills and knowledge of the novelist. It beautifully highlights the natural elements and its gifts to human beings. It represents the finding of the study.


About the Author

Dr. Nongmaithem Suraj Kumar was born as the eldest son to Nongmaithem Hemantakumar Singh and Nongmaithem (Ongbi) Rajkumari Somola Devi on 1st April, 1990 at Sagolband Nepra Menjor Leikai. He completed his Graduation in English Literature, acquired a Diploma in Communicative English from Bishop Appasamy College of Arts and Science (B.A.C.A.S), Coimbatore and from the same college he acquired a Masters Degree in English Language and Literature. He holds a B.Ed degree from I.G.N.O.U, Imphal and acquired a Diploma in Multilingual Office Automation (D.M.O.A) of C-DAC, GIST from North East Institute of Information Technology, Imphal. He has completed his Ph.D in English Literature from Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, Meriema.
He has published many articles through journals and books of repute. He has also published a translation book entitled “The Sunken Small Boat” in 2017 by Ruby Press & Co.
