About the Book:
From the late nineteenth to the mid-twentieth century, the aim of public health was controlling the harm from infectious diseases, which were largely under control by the 1950s. By the mid 1970s it was clear that reducing illness, death, and rising health care costs could best be achieved through a focus on health promotion and disease prevention. A health educator is a professionally prepared individual who serves in a variety of roles and is specifically trained to use appropriate educational strategies and methods to facilitate the development of policies, procedures, interventions, and systems conducive to the health of individuals, groups, and communities.

Sports medicine, also known as sport and exercise medicine, is a branch of medicine that deals with physical fitness and the treatment and prevention of injuries related to sports and exercise. Although most sports teams have employed team physicians for many years, it is only since the late 20th century that sports medicine has emerged as a distinct field of health care.

Sport and exercise medicine doctors are specialist physicians who have completed medical school, residency training in a specialty such as physiatry or orthopedic surgery, and then gone on to complete additional fellowship training in sport and exercise medicine. Sports medicine programs prepare students for careers where they evaluate and treat sports-related injuries; graduates of this program often go on to graduate-level programs in fields like physical therapy, occupational therapy or medicine.
